Education People are an independent agency who have been serving schools and teachers as long as I can remember. Agencies come and go - and there have been some big ones out there – but, despite their relative smallness, EP always had a good foothold on the local and regional circuit. It is clearly a name that commands respect. As an ‘old timer’ I have no hesitation in recommending an agency that has a proven record in placing me in schools - usually as and when I wanted it. During the period of Covid in fact - when demand for teachers was particularly high - they were my only agency. In ‘normal’ times registration with at last one other agency is considered good practice - the availability of supply work should, as a rule, not be taken for granted and since the return to normal times I have done the normal thing and signed up with another - but chances are that if I were still wedded to the one, they’d be doing me proud! It can be hard to think of secondary schools where I have not been on EP’s account over the years. I don’t by the way do ‘primary’ but I believe they are very active in this sector too and it has been offered to me. People such as myself are attracted to supply for the freedom it gives us to pursue outside professional and leisure interests or be more responsive to home and family needs. Contrary to what most people think it can also make it easier to enjoy being in classrooms! Whilst we do our best to do right by the teachers whom we have been tasked to cover, when we fall short we have the luxury of being able to reflect on the experience without burden; the stress doesn’t follow us home as it can for permanent staff. I say this because I think it is a mindset that is well understood by the best agencies, as it calls for considerable patience and flexibility on their part. Called upon to find a teacher to fill a vacancy or cover an absence at short notice (eg the same day) their cool heads always prevail and they are unfailingly polite, never pushy. Despite the pressure - always professional. Errors in booking and listing online ‘timesheets’ are rare and pay, which always comes the week after work has been done (pay advice as early as the Monday), is always correct. Long may they continue!
