Part 1: Terms That Apply to Everyone

1. A Quick Intro

Rate A Recruiter is your space to rate, review and research recruiters – and to help recruiters show what they stand for. We provide tools for reputation-building and decision-making, for recruiters and clients to showcase their services and manage their reputations.

Other than initial verification to confirm someone is real - we don’t vet every recruiter, candidate, or client on the platform, and we don’t endorse anyone you see reviewed or listed here

We provide the tools, not the recommendations. What you read is based on user experiences, not Rate A Recruiter’s opinion — so if you choose to reach out, respond, or work with someone, you do so at your own discretion and risk.

We encourage thoughtful choices, but the responsibility for any engagement rests with you.

We don’t step into any deals or disputes between users. We act solely as an intermediary and do not verify or guarantee the accuracy of information posted by users. We are not a party to any agreements formed between candidates, recruiters, or clients and are not responsible for the outcome of any engagements or disputes that arise between users of the Platform. We will of course consider reasonable representations made by recruiters.

1.2 General Information and Guidance

Sometimes we share helpful tips, insights or general guidance on how to get the most from recruitment. But to be super clear: whilst we aim to provide the best advice, it will not be not tailored to your specific situation, so use your judgement on what to take action on.

We do our best to keep things accurate and up to date, but we don’t promise it’s always 100% complete or right for your needs. If you’re making an important decision, do your own due diligence or get professional advice first.

What we share is for general information only — and you use it at your own risk.

2. Who can use the platform?

2.1 Geographic Scope and Legal Use

Rate A Recruiter is built for the UK market — that’s where we operate, and that’s where our rules apply.

You’re welcome to access the platform from elsewhere, but please note: it’s designed for use within the United Kingdom. If you use it from outside the UK, you do so at your own risk and are still expected to follow local laws.

You must only use the platform for lawful purposes. That means no activities that break local, national, or international regulations — wherever you’re accessing it from.

2.2. Age

To keep everyone safe and in line with the UK’s Online Safety Act, you must be 18 or over to use Rate A Recruiter.

That’s because we’re a platform built for adults sharing professional experiences — and we take the safety, trust, and accountability of our community seriously.

3. Your Account - Your Responsibility

You might need an account to use all our features. When you sign up, you agree to:

·       Provide accurate, current, and complete information.

·       Keep your account credentials secure.

·       Be responsible for all activities under your account.

·       Unless explicitly authorised, you may not allow others to use your account. If you become aware of any unauthorised use, notify us immediately. You are responsible for any misuse unless it results from our negligence.

3.1 Verifying Accounts:

To keep things real, we may ask you to prove who you are. We may request documentation to confirm eligibility or authenticity. This may include validating your name, professional credentials, business identity, company registration, or any other information. Failure to provide verification may result in suspension, limitation, or removal of your account.

To maintain the integrity of our platform, all users submitting reviews are required to verify their accounts. For individual recruiters and clients, identity verification through LinkedIn or other third-party services may be required. Business accounts will need to submit documentation to prove their legitimacy (e.g., business registration, certifications). Rate A Recruiter reserves the right to suspend accounts pending successful verification.

3.2 Account Security and Impersonation

If you think someone’s accessed your account without permission — or is pretending to be you or your business — let us know straight away at support@ratearecruiter.com

It’s also your responsibility to update your login credentials and take any steps needed to secure your account. We’ll support you where we can, but staying alert helps protect your reputation and our community

3.3 Communications and Notifications

When you create an account with Rate A Recruiter, you agree to receive communications from us, our partners, and trusted service providers who help us run the platform smoothly.

These messages may include updates about your account, reviews, platform features, service changes, or tools we think you’ll find useful. Communications are typically delivered via email or, where applicable, push notifications through your browser or device.

You’re in control of how much you hear from us:

·      To unsubscribe from non-essential emails (like product updates or tips), use the unsubscribe link in the email or manage your preferences in your account settings.

·      To disable push notifications, use your browser or device settings.

·      Some messages — like legal updates, changes to these Terms, or important service announcements — are necessary for using the platform. Unless you delete your account, you’ll still receive these essential communications.

4. What not to do……

This is a community built on respect, fairness, trust and inclusion. So please don’t:

·      Post content that’s false, misleading, defamatory, unlawful, or in breach of any legal agreement (like an NDA or confidentiality clause).

·      Misrepresent your identity, impersonate someone else, or create accounts under false or fraudulent pretences.

·      Submit reviews that are retaliatory, malicious, unverifiable, or clearly intended to cause harm.

·      Use inflammatory language, personal insults, discriminatory remarks, hate speech, or any abusive behaviour.

·      Upload or distribute malware, spam, or any harmful code.

·      Use bots, automation tools, or scraping technologies to manipulate data or disrupt the Platform.

·      Circumvent our moderation tools, access controls, or any security features.

·      Exploit the Platform commercially without our permission (including affiliate links, advertising, or unauthorised promotions).

·      Use the Platform in any way that breaks local, national, or international laws — or to promote illegal activities.

·      Interfere with other users’ experiences, including by trolling, stalking, or posting explicit, violent, or exploitative content.

4.1 Our Content Moderation promise:
We care about quality. That’s why we take the quality of the content shared on Rate A Recruiter seriously. All user-generated content, including reviews and feedback, must comply with our guidelines. Rate A Recruiter reserves the right to moderate, review, and remove any content that violates these guidelines or that appears to be false, misleading, defamatory, or abusive. We may remove anything that doesn’t meet our standards – using a mix of smart tech and thoughtful humans.

4.2 Naming People
If you name someone, keep it respectful. Only verified recruiters who operate publicly (e.g. sole traders or known representatives) may be named – and only if your comments are fair and professional. Users must not name or target individual recruiters with language that is abusive, defamatory, or derogatory in nature. Reviews must remain factual, professional, and focused on recruitment services or experiences — not personal attributes or insults.

4.3 Feedback with Respect & Constructive Criticism
We welcome honest feedback – but not personal attacks. Stay focused on facts and specific interactions. That’s how we grow.

All feedback must be expressed respectfully and constructively. We encourage users to describe their experiences clearly and factually, without resorting to personal slurs, inflammatory remarks, or sweeping judgments. Reviews must relate to specific interactions with recruiters or agencies.

4.4 Named Individuals and Identifiability
Users must not include full names, identifiable contact information, or defamatory references to individual recruiters unless such individuals operate as sole traders or are publicly representing a company in a recruitment capacity and have been verified as a recruiter on the Rate A Recruiter platform, agreeing to have their details shared. Any named individual must be relevant to the review and referenced respectfully.

4.5 System Misuse and Platform Abuse

We’re building a trusted space — so any attempt to mess with the platform, dodge the rules, or compete unfairly won’t fly here. By using Rate A Recruiter, you agree not to:

Use the Platform or its Content to compete with us or undermine our service;

Spam, phish, or spread malware of any kind;

Hack into, damage, or disrupt any part of our systems, data, or security;

Try to snoop on or tamper with other users’ communications;

Put unreasonable strain on our servers or tools (like scraping or overloading pages);

Bypass, disable, or work around any security features — including tools that stop unauthorised copying of reviews or other content;

You must not collect, scrape, harvest, frame or deep-link to any Content on our Service without our specific prior written consent

Encourage, assist, or attempt any of the above in any way.

We take breaches of this nature seriously — and we won’t hesitate to suspend, block, or pursue legal action if needed.

4.6 Expect a response every time

We can’t guarantee that recruiters will respond to messages, review requests, or enquiries sent via the Platform — and we don’t set or monitor their response times.

If your request is time-sensitive or urgent, it’s your responsibility to follow up directly with the recruiter or agency. Our platform is designed to support smarter decisions — but the pace and nature of the interaction is between you and them

5. Intellectual Property and Content Licensing

When you post content, you give us permission to use it – forever, anywhere, and in any format. We might use it in marketing too. You still own it, but we get to share it.

By submitting content, you grant Rate A Recruiter a non-exclusive, perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free licence (with full rights to sublicense) to use, modify, distribute, and display your content in any media. This includes the right to create derivative works and use content for marketing or commercial purposes.

You waive any moral rights you may have and understand that your content may remain on the Platform even after account deactivation. That said we will consider reasonable requests to remove or delete posts and these should be sent to support@ratearecruiter.com

5.1 Our Brand is Protected
Our name, logo and design are part of our identity. Don’t copy or use them without written permission.

Rate A Recruiter retains all rights, title, and interest in its trademarks, logos, branding, and any other intellectual property associated with the Platform. Unauthorized use, reproduction, or distribution of any of Rate A Recruiter's intellectual property, including the Platform's name, logo, or other proprietary content, is strictly prohibited. Users agree not to use or attempt to use any of Rate A Recruiter’s intellectual property without prior written consent from Rate A Recruiter.

6. Privacy, Cookies & Accessibility

We respect your data. Our [Privacy Policy] and [Cookie Policy] explain how we use your data. By using the Platform, you consent to the use of cookies and similar technologies, including for analytics and user experience improvements.

We aim to provide an accessible platform. If you face access issues, reach out – we want this platform to work for everyone. Contact us at support@ratearecruiter.com.

6.1 Data Downloads in CSV Format
From time to time, authorised users — whether that’s you, a recruiter, a client, or our admin team — may download certain bits of information from the Platform in a secure CSV file. Think of it as neatly packaging up profile details, reviews, or contact information so it’s easier to manage. We don’t do this lightly — it’s only ever for legitimate reasons linked to running the service, and it’s always handled in line with our Privacy Policy and the law.

7. Platform Changes & Updates

Sometimes we need to tweak things – for updates, improvements, or tech issues. We can’t promise zero downtime, but we do our best.

We may change, suspend, or withdraw the Platform or any part of it without notice. This includes for maintenance, updates, or technical reasons. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access and are not liable for delays or downtime beyond our control.

8. Content Moderation & Automated Systems

We might edit content (for clarity or to remove names), or hide/remove it if it breaches guidelines or UK defamation law. We aim to review flagged content promptly and fairly.

We may moderate user content manually or through automated tools. Submissions may be edited for grammar, clarity, or to meet content standards. We reserve the right to remove or decline content at our discretion.

8.1 Handling of Potentially Defamatory Content
If a review is flagged for potentially defamatory or abusive content (including naming individuals with offensive or subjective descriptors), it will be subject to moderation and may be temporarily hidden or edited. Reviews that breach UK defamation laws, our review guidelines, or our community standards will be removed.

8.2 Notice and Review Process
If a review, rating, or comment is reported or suspected of violating these Terms, we will review it within a reasonable timeframe — typically within 5–10 working days. We may contact the person who posted it and, where appropriate, the person or business it refers to, to better understand the situation.

This doesn’t mean we assume anyone is right or wrong. It simply helps us gather context so we can make a fair and balanced decision. We may ask for clarification, supporting information, or additional detail. Based on our review, we may:

·      Leave the content as is,

·      Edit it (e.g., to redact names or language that doesn’t meet our standards), or

·      Remove it entirely.

We’ll let involved users know the outcome wherever possible, and always aim to apply our guidelines consistently and transparently. We reserve the right to redact names or phrases that do not meet our standards.

8.3 Right to Edit or Remove
We may edit reviews for clarity or to remove personal identifiers without altering the meaning. Repeated breaches of our review standards may lead to account suspension or removal from the platform.

9. Dispute Resolution and Takedown Requests

We do not mediate disputes between users. By using the Platform, you release Rate A Recruiter and its affiliates from any claims arising from user interactions.

If you believe your rights are infringed, contact us at support@ratearecruiter.com with:

·       Your full contact details,

·       A detailed description of the issue,

·       A declaration of rights or relevant documentation.

Requests will be reviewed, and content may be restricted or removed at our discretion. For UK defamation complaints, we may require a formal notice under the Defamation Act 2013.

10. Leaving and Account Deactivation

You can close your account at any time. Some content (e.g., reviews) may remain visible after deactivation unless a valid removal request is submitted.

We may suspend or terminate your account for violating these Terms. Content may be retained for moderation, audit, or legal purposes.

11. Complaints

Sometimes things go wrong, that’ never our intention and want you to have a positive experience. However if you wish to make a complaint, email support@ratearecruiter.com

We will acknowledge complaints within 5 working days and aim to resolve them within 28 days, even if we are not obligated to act on a complaint, we will always take appropriate steps.

12. Consumer Rights (UK)

If you are a Consumer (i.e., an individual acting wholly or mainly outside your trade, business, or profession), nothing in these Terms affects your rights under UK consumer protection laws, including the Consumer Rights Act 2015. As a Consumer, you have specific legal rights, including but not limited to

·       The right to cancel contracts under certain circumstances,

·       The right to a refund, repair, or replacement for faulty products or services.

12.1 Business Users:
If you are a Business User (i.e., a registered business or acting within the scope of your business, trade, or profession), you are not entitled to the same consumer protections as individual consumers. Business Users acknowledge that they are using the Platform for commercial purposes and that they do not have the same cancellation, refund, or protection rights that are afforded to Consumers under UK law.

13. Limitation of Liability

We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential losses (including loss of revenue, profit, or data) arising out of your use of the Platform.

We do not exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.

13.1 Reputational and Indirect Loss

We understand that feedback can impact how you're seen — especially in recruitment. But to the extent allowed by law, Rate A Recruiter isn’t liable for any loss of reputation, earnings, opportunities, or contracts that might result from reviews or other content shared on the platform.

We also aren’t responsible for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages that happen because of how the Platform is used — including but not limited to technical issues, errors, or events outside our control.

The platform is here to help people make more informed decisions — but what happens next is ultimately down to the users.

14. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold Rate A Recruiter harmless from any claims, damages, liabilities, and legal fees arising from your use of the Platform or breach of these Terms.

15. Force Majeure

We are not liable for delay or failure to perform obligations due to events beyond our control (e.g., natural disasters, internet outages, pandemics, or regulatory restrictions).

16. External Links & Third Parties

We are not responsible for third-party content, services, or websites linked from the Platform. You use them at your own risk.

17. General Legal Terms

·       Entire Agreement: These Terms constitute the full agreement between you and us.

·       Severability: If any provision is unlawful or unenforceable, the rest remain valid.

·       No Waiver: Failure to enforce a right is not a waiver.

·       Assignment: You may not assign your rights. We may transfer ours provided it doesn’t prejudice your rights.

·       Relationship: Nothing in these Terms creates a partnership or agency relationship.

·       Third-Party Rights: No third party can enforce these Terms.

17.1 Updates to These Terms

We may update these Terms occasionally — for example, to reflect changes in the law, platform updates, or how we operate.

If we make a change that significantly affects your rights or responsibilities, we’ll let you know in advance. This might be via email (using the address in your account) or with a clear notice on the Platform.

Minor or routine updates may just be posted here, so we recommend checking in now and then. Your continued use of Rate A Recruiter means you’re agreeing to the latest version of the Terms.

18. Law & Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.

Part 2: Terms That Apply to Candidates

1. Leaving a Review

You must have genuinely interacted with a recruiter to leave a review. This includes any stage of the recruitment process, from initial contact for a role to successful placement, or an inevitable let down. You warrant that:

·       You have no undisclosed personal or business relationship with the recruiter,

·       You are not a competitor,

·       You have not been paid or incentivised to submit the review,

·       The content is your honest, independent opinion.

1.1  Language matters
You agree not to use offensive language, including insults, name-calling, or inflammatory descriptors. Reviews should focus on your recruitment experience and maintain a respectful tone.

1.2  Be Fair when naming people
If a recruiter is identifiable by name or specific title, you must ensure your review is fair, accurate, and not malicious. We reserve the right to redact names where feedback becomes personal rather than professional.

1.3  Verification of Experience
We reserve the right to verify that a genuine professional interaction occurred before a review is published. We may ask for details (e.g., job role, communications, timelines) to verify that a real interaction took place. This keeps our platform trustworthy for everyone

1.4  Anonymity and Identity

We know it takes courage to share honest feedback — which is why you have the option to stay anonymous when posting a review.

While we verify your identity during registration (so we know you're real), your public review doesn’t have to include your full name. You can choose to post using identifiers like your job title, industry, or experience level — or no identifiers at all.

That said, anonymity online has limits. Even if your name isn’t shown, details like your job title, location, or the nature of your experience may give clues about who you are — especially in smaller teams or niche industries. Please consider this before submitting a review.

We’re committed to protecting your privacy, but we can’t guarantee full anonymity in every case. If you’re ever unsure, reach out to us before posting at support@ratearecruiter.com.

2. Your Rights

You may edit or delete your own reviews. Some content may remain on the Platform after account closure unless you request removal.

3. Reporting Misuse

If you spot something off – a fake review, personal dig, or anything that breaches our rules – report it. We’ll investigate and take action as needed.

4. No Employment Guarantee

We’re not a job board. We can’t and won’t promise you interviews or job offers. We’re here to help you navigate recruiters, not land a job for you.

Part 3: Terms That Apply to Recruiters

1. Claiming and Managing Your Profile

If we’ve created a recruiter profile about you (based on public info), you can claim it to ensure it’s accurate. We may ask for ID or documentation to confirm it’s you.

2. Responding to Reviews

If you’re on a verified premium plan, you can reply to reviews about you. Replies must be professional, factual, and not retaliatory. Responses are subject to moderation.

2.1 Reporting Harmful Reviews
Think a review crosses the line? Let us know at support@ratearecruiter.com

If you believe a review contains defamatory statements, personal insults, or violates our community guidelines, you may submit a takedown request. We will review your complaint and, where appropriate, redact, edit, or remove the content in accordance with our defamation and content policies.

It is your responsibility to make your own frequent backups of Content to protect you in case of loss or damage to such material. We are not responsible for such loss or damage.

2.2 Anonymous Reviews and User Verification

We understand that seeing an anonymous review can feel frustrating — especially when it’s critical. But every review you see on the platform comes from a registered, verified user. They may choose to hide their name publicly, but we know who they are.

We do this to encourage open, honest feedback while maintaining platform integrity. Anonymity protects reviewers from retaliation — it doesn’t mean they’re unaccountable.

If you believe a review violates our terms, is defamatory, or was posted in bad faith, you can flag it for review. We take every report seriously and investigate each one fairly — whether the author is named or anonymous.

3. Professional Conduct

You may not solicit fake reviews, threaten users, or misrepresent yourself. Violations may lead to account suspension without a refund to any premium services.

4. Paid Features

We offer extra tools – like enhanced profiles and analytics – for a fee. These come with their own terms and pricing, which you’ll need to agree to separately

4.1 – Payment Obligations and Account Status

If you’ve signed up for any paid features or premium services on Rate A Recruiter, you agree to pay all associated fees on time, in line with the pricing and terms provided at sign-up. Non-payment, failed billing, or chargebacks may result in:

·      Temporary suspension of premium features

·      Removal of enhanced visibility or tools

·      Full removal of your recruiter profile from the Platform

We’ll usually give you a heads-up before taking action, but we reserve the right to remove access without notice if repeated or unresolved payment issues occur.

5. Removal from Platform

We reserve the right to remove your profile if we receive ongoing, substantiated complaints, if you breach our terms, or if we uncover unprofessional conduct, without a refund to any premium services.

Part 4: Terms That Apply to Clients

1. Use of Information

You may only use Platform content for lawful internal business use. Scraping or republishing reviews is prohibited.

2. Creating a Client Account

Clients may register accounts to manage recruiter relationships and provide feedback. You must supply accurate information.

3. Conduct

Clients must not engage in defamatory, misleading, or retaliatory behaviour.

4. Job Posting & Additional Tools

If enabled, job posting or recruiter tendering tools are subject to additional terms and may incur fees.

If you have any questions about these Terms, please contact us at support@ratearecruiter.com.
