Straightline Retail Recruitment

I'm responding to the review from John Baker. My name is Sean Tomey and I am the owner of the business. Unfortunately Google have made our ability to respond to reviews dependent on verification but made verification impossible so I am replying here. We have no record of any John Baker in our database with the exception of a CV application made in May 2016. That Mr Baker is unlikely to have been so disappointed in our service as to take 9 years to recover before complaining about it. I have also checked all our history and deleted files even though we would not delete anything from as recently as 2024/25. I can only assume that this is a false review or that this Mr Baker really does have a legitimate complaint about Starline Recruitment and has confused us with them. I have worked in recruitment for 35 years. Complaints about what we say and what we do (particularly when we tell people what we cant do or what they do not want to hear) are an occupational hazard but hit home nevertheless and it is hurtful to read comments like this. While I freely admit to being honest and straightforward in the way I interact with people, I am not rude and I would never hang up on someone. Nor would anyone else working here. That being said I apologize to Mr Baker if he genuinely did interact with our business and felt badly treated.

I recently received an unsolicited phone call from a representative of Straightline Retail Recruitment, who, based on other reviews, may be the owner. The interaction was disappointing and unprofessional from the start. Although my CV is available on platforms like Indeed and CV Library (a standard practice for job seekers), the caller seemed more interested in being confrontational than helpful. He claimed my profile matched a job opportunity but provided little to no information about the role itself. Throughout the conversation, he exhibited an unprofessional demeanor, overtaking me, and even belittling my current job. ( I suggest he consider improving his communication skills) his behavior seemed entirely unsuitable for a recruitment professional. Instead of addressing my concerns, he abruptly hung up. This experience left me feeling bewildered and disrespected, and I see from other online reviews that I am not alone in this. It is disheartening to encounter such hostility from someone in a professional role. The caller even challenged my reasons for being open to new opportunities, dismissing my explanation as inadequate for having my CV on a job board. The audacity and lack of professionalism were shocking. I would not recommend Starline Retail Recruitment to anyone based on this encounter. A recruiter’s role is to support and guide candidates, not to create a hostile and uncomfortable environment.

I was contacted by a guy called Nigel. He was so helpful and informative and went above and beyond to help me. Even when we came across a few hiccups he did everything he could to help me. Could not have asked for any better customer service! He is a credit to the team!

I’ve been working for the retail industry for almost 15 years, and I have to say that for the very first time I have felt an incredible commitment and professionalism from a recruiter. Thanks to Sean and all his advices, feedback and communication I will start a new position in a couple of days. I have to say that I’ve never felt such trust, felt valued as a profesional as much as I felt with Sean. I’m very confident that this is going to be a great experience thanks to the helpless effort received. Thanks again Sean!
